Are students who take online courses more likely to cheat at tests?

This article is about a study that was done about the effect of where a student takes their exam. One group of students were left to take online exams in an unproctored room. There was more of a variation in grades for the unproctored students than in the other two groups. They did research to see if cheating could be cause of this greater variation but they actually found no evidence of cheating.
This source changes my thinking because I have been of the mindset that students who take online tests are much more likely to cheat and not study the course material. They simply google they're way through the test. This article seems to suggest that this is not the case. I do not think this article brings any new ideas but rather more ends the question of are online students likely to cheat on tests. However, in the article the author mentioned that they would like to expand their research to other types of tests which is why I am not sure that this article fully brings to light the picture.
I feel like this source may respond a bit to the article about the validity of grades because tests are usually a huge chunk of a students grade. The author here would prove that tests grades are not something whose validity should be questioned.
I still want to see if there is anymore about tests and studying for online. I've been having a lot of trouble finding articles that I feel like are relevant. I need to delve more into the other side of this matter which is teacher interaction. I feel like I'm starting to answer a part of my main question. I feel like online courses do offer the same quality in terms of assessment and content but now need to look more into the personal connections.
